Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program

My Blackberry buzzed in my pocket and when I saw that I received an email from the Consulate General of Japan in Atlanta, I have to admit I became a little nervous. I opened the email immediately and found that I had been accepted into the JET Program to serve as a JET Participant for a year in Japan. I think my excitement rested not just in the fact that I was headed to Japan, but mostly because I now had at least one job lined up. It was late in the day on April 15, 2011. My sister, mother and I were in the kitchen when I got the good news. Emily was upstairs and I called her downstairs before relaying the news to everyone. She had been so supportive of me during the application and interview process and I wanted to make sure she was one of the first to know. We were already headed out to meet my dad for dinner and it was a perfect time to celebrate with a little wine and cheese at a little French place in downtown historic Summerville. The next step included all the necessary paper work, official documents, visa and medical exams required for the trek to Asia.I also knew that I wouldn't find out until late May or early June where exactly I'd be placed.
